Personality: Alexander has a tendency to polarize others' opinions of himself; you love him or you hate him, there is simply no in between. His detractors describe him as brash, rash, irreverent, and stubborn, far too willing to fight - be it with words or claws - rather than behave diplomatically when faced with an issue. His supporters see him as brave, resourceful, and unwavering, a tom who knows what he stands for and will fight for his cause no matter the odds. Both are correct. Once Alexander picks a side or has an idea, he will stick with it, fighting until he either wins or is somehow forced to stand down. He has little to no patience for those who dither or remain neutral. As someone who began his life on the bottom rungs of society, Alexander has a powerfully strong desire to climb, though his feelings toward those in power are rather conflicting. On one paw, he wants to /be/ them, craving the security that comes along with station. On the other, however, he resents them, due to his kithood experiences with the well-to-do. The tom hopes to one day not to worry, be it over food or shelter or predators, be they of another species or his own. Slightly less powerful is his desire for a family. He wants to be the patriarch his father never was, and to give his kittens a far better start in life than he had.
History: Alexander was born in a large city, just one cat in what the human inhabitants would have seen as a veritable feline plague. His mother, Rachel, had a mate in another city but had left him for reasons that were never made clear to her children. His father was James, the fourth son of a colony leader with sizable holdings in the nearby countryside. Shortly after Alexander and his brother were born, James left Rachel under the pretense of "protecting her" from being attacked by her former mate for 'bigamy.' She raised their kittens alone for the next couple of months, struggling to keep herself and, after their weaning, her sons fed. What family Rachel had scorned her for having kittens out of wedlock, and did nothing to help her. It wasn't until Rachel died that they became involved in their lives at all. After news of Rachel's death spread, her former mate came to claim what little territory she'd managed to carve out. Taking pity on the now homeless kittens, two of her cousins volunteered to take them in. Alexander lived with his cousin until he was roughly five months old, at which point the cousin committed suicide. He then joined up with a local band, comprised mostly of bachelor toms and elders. He spent six months with them, working his way up from hunter to steward, managing his former fellow stewards and arranging housing for the band's members. When he was nearing roughly a year of age, the leader of the band told him of a small village, located in a valley far from the city. He wanted Alexander to go there and get a fresh start, knowing that he would never prosper in the city. The young tom fought furiously with him over it, not wanting to give up the life he'd made there, but in the end he was convinced to go.
