Personality: Eve is a cautious but friendly she-cat. She is observant and watches closely, relying on her companion, Opie, for warning on dangers. Eve, being a white cat with blue eyes, is partially deaf. She has trouble hearing things from a distance but can usually hear her friend's warning quack, and if not, will most certainly see him jumping in front of her, wings flapping as he pushes her under cover. Although his voice is often too soft for her to understand, she can hear the 'panic call' when there is a great threat. Although Eve herself is a bit cautious, she is usually pretty nice to others, even if she has to speak a little loudly (not too much) to hear her own voice, and will ask for anyone else to speak up so she can at least hear them.
History: Eve was born at the same time the incubated duck eggs hatched. The human who owned her had tried to hatch his first flock of ducklings, with minimal success. Only two ducklings hatched, and only one survived. And as far as the kittens went, the mother had not survived the birthing process, leaving only Eve and no other kittens. It was a rather horrible situation all around, with a traumatic loss of life. But the kitten needed milk, and the duckling needed a companion, so the human let them be together and he fed the kitten from the bottle until she was weened. The young duckling, who ended up growing into a Cayuga drake (male), had imprinted on his feline playmate in the first day of his life, since setting his eyes on her. He grew much faster than the little kitten did, of course, and was nearly full-grown in the 4 months it took the little kitten to become even remotely self-sufficient. Tragedy wasn't over yet, though. A slip on the wet floor following a shower led to the human's premature death, and Opie pushed his little friend out of the house and waddled off at her side into the wilderness.
Eve began to lose her hearing at about 6 months old, but fortunately, did not lose all of it. It seems to neither be getting worse or better, but stays the same, and she is hopeful that it will continue to remain the same. She has padded side-by-side with her companion friend, Opie the duck, who helped her survive in her first months in the wilderness by catching frogs and fish for her. Ducks can actually eat both frogs and fish, but they can also survive solely on grasses, weeds, and flowers. So he made sure his feline friend was well-fed on the proteins she needed while he fed on the soft grasses. Now, at a year old, the young she-cat can hunt pretty well, once she spots a mouse tail or gets nudged in the general direction by her friend, whose eyesight, because he is a bird after all, was much better than hers.
