Distinct features: The glitter in his coat can make him look anything from bright and bold red to dark auburn, but at its very base, the red on his hind legs and between his shoulderblades is darker than the red covering the rest of him.
Personality: Rust is a fairly happy and charming cat. He is one to make jokes and try to stay on everyone's good side when possible. He likes to chat, and to make up for his lack of wisdom, he is very inquisitive and adventurous. Rust unfortunately has a short trigger that he is very ashamed of. Seeing other cats become aggressive riles him up more than it should, and while he personally can't explain it, he feels like its a dreadful part of him that needs to be subdued by staying humble and isolated. His lack of deep and personal relationships makes him tend to have self-centered thoughts despite his social nature, and as a result his actions tend to be unknowingly opportunistic. He has a very strong hunting drive that makes the otherwise peppy and wise-cracking cat very serious and dead silent, but outside of his hard-wired impulses, Rust is affectionate and gentle.
History: Rust's ancestors date back to a far away rural village. The favorite and surprisingly legal pastime in was to breed fighting cats; giant and exotic looking domestic cats that were territorial, possessive of their owners, and animal aggressive-especially towards other cats. They were ethically used in ways much like terriers are; to hunt not only rodents, but pests like raccoons and snakes. The more popular and unethical use was to make them fight for sport. Eventually, careless fighting cat owners created an epidemic when enough of them went stray for them to become a problem; these feral fighting cats were also people aggressive. Any cat bearing the exotic patterns and size were hunted down. Rust's family line is said to have passed because the cat had interbred with an Somali house cat whose kittens were being cared for by the owner. This new generation spun a breed of barn cats. A lot of the natural aggression was bred out and the drive was kept. At the same time, the new generation had a curious ginger coat that its owners wanted to become more expressed, thus the breeding was mostly isolated to Abyssinians and Somalis.
The end result was Rust's mother, Rosered, who was adopted by a tourist that brought her back to Foxcroft to be a house cat. Much to her owner's surprise, Rosered was pregnant with a staggering litter of 7, and the kittens were all given off to various people in the town. Rust and one of his sisters were adopted by a farmer to be a barn cat. His sister was named Spice, and she had become more of a house cat because of her docile nature. Rust was destructive, to high energy, and intimidating to the farmer's grandchildren, so he was mostly kept outside, much to his pleasure.
Unfortunately when the storm hit, it destroyed the house, killing Spice and the owner inside. The barn didn't make it intact, but it held up enough to keep Rust safe. Now the barn is quickly deteriorating and threatening to collapse, Forcing Rust to leave his safe haven and explore the rest of the village.
